The Karoo: the traditional name for a vast, arid region covering most of the central plateau of South Africa. This is the land where primitive Bushmen left their rock art on the walls of their caves, where early travelers witnessed migrating Springbok in herds that stretched from one horizon to the other and way beyond, where the gifted hand of nature sculpted dramatic landscapes that still awe the traveler who ventures under these big skies.
